INFORMATION FOUND ON THE INDEX CARDS OF THE ITS (International Tracing Service)
These three cards located at Yad Vashem were made after the war, and the information must of course be taken with some caution.

One card says that Miriam Walewska was born Dec 1st 1941 in Krakow, Poland and that she was in Ghetto Krakow from Dec 1941 to March 1943.

The second card tells us that in November 1946 Marja Walewska, 5 years old, is stayingat Bleidorn, Ulm, Germany. (From other sources we know that in Bleidorn there was a religious institution for children who had survived the Holocaust in Poland and were on their way to Israel)

The third card says that Marysia Walewska, 5 years old, is listed among those living in Bleidorn. No date.

QUESTIONS:
Was Miriam born in Ghetto Krakow on Dec 1st 1941?
If she was in Ghetto Krakow till March 1943 - who brought her out and to where?
Where did she stay from March 1943 and till the end of the war?
Could her parents' names be Hirsch and Luba?
Could Maria Walewska be a made up name for this little girl? After all, there had been another Maria Walewska in history - the great love of Napoleon.

Logan Kleinwaks has given us some Walewski names from Krakow.

Could any of these persons be connected to Marysia - either as her Jewish family or more likely, as a family that helped her during the war?

THE MIDWIFE A.  (ANNA?)  WALEWSKA

A. WALEWSKA was a midwife  living in ulica Spiska 17, Krakow according to the 1938 Economic Directory of Kielce, Krakow and Silesia.

In a 1928 directory Anna Walewska is listed as living in ulica Spiska 17, Krakow.

ul. Spiska is about 1 km from what later became the ghetto, Logan explains.

TWO MEDICAL DOCTORS

In the 1938 Polish Medical Yearbook these two medical doctors from Krakow are listed

Antoni WALEWSKI (born 1906, diploma 1935), og., ul. Grzegorzecka 20, Krakow

Stanislaw WALEWSKI ( born 1890, diploma 1926), wewn., ul Biskupia 16, Krakow

 

Back in 2007 Logan had found the following entry in the 1937 directory

searchable at www.kalter.org/search, in Krakow:

Walewski S., lekarze d-rzy medycyny, Lobzowska 27, tel. 155-50 [image 1224]

This may be Dr. Stanislaw Walewski, but on a different address.
